The cabin itself was fine, in fact charming, the shoreline extensive and clean. As mentioned, the accommodations itself were fine, other than it sits very close to the highway. Opening windows results in only traffic noise, not lake noise, as I’d hoped. The rest of stay I shall detail here. We were scheduled to stay 2 nights. In the middle of the night on the first night of our stay, there was a BAT in the cabin. Thankfully, there is a set of French doors that separates the bedroom from the living area, so the BAT was kept at bay from the bed. Call me squeamish, but I’m not staying in a cabin with a BAT for 2 nights, 1 night was bad enough. We packed up and I called the property owner. I told her there was a BAT, we were leaving 1 night early because of the BAT, and would she agree to a 1 night refund, to which she said yes, she’d agree. I didn’t ask for more than the 1 night’s compensation, only for the night we didn’t stay. After several weeks, and no refund, I began to e-mail her, requesting the refund information. To which, she replied with a letter to my home, and a gift certificate to another night’s stay at the BAT cabin or any of the other properties she had in the area (we live 7 hrs away). The letter detailed how she had spoken to her lawyer and, since the BAT is an act of nature, she was not responsible for a refund. In addition, she concluded that, and I quote……”the bat came in with you and left when you did”. I must state that both arriving and departing happened in broad daylight, we would have noticed a BAT following us in and out. At any rate, that statement is preposterous. So after verbally agreeing to a refund, she recanted. I would not recommend this property due to the BAT, the proximity to the highway and the integrity of the owner. |

Subject: Week's Stay at Little Bear Cabin
Comment: Cabin is being totally mis-represented on website for Little Bear Cabin. We were told cabin was fully equipped for week's stay, untrue!! Grounds were messy, when we walked in, cabin smelled musty. No kitchen facilities (small micro, 3 forks, 2 knives, 2 spoons) soiled electric fry pan. Bed and kitchen sink and micro all in same room. We were given 3 wash cloths, for 2 people for a week! Cabin over-run with spiders and ants. Couldn't unpack, no where to put clothes. Couldn't use gazebo, full of bugs and spiders, filthy. Is on main highway, traffic (trucks) run all night outside where bed is, no sleep at all. Train comes thru at 3:00 a.m right in front of cabin, sounds whistle, adds to no sleep. I have photos of the "real" cabin, if interested, e-mail me and I will forward. Cupboards were a total mess. This so over-priced, if we had paid $50 a night, I could have laughted it off. We paid much more than that, nothing to laugh at. Went to motel for three nights just so we could get some sleep. Owner was aware of my husband's serious health condition and fact I needed to cook special food for him. NO way to cook in that cabin. Had no impact. Had to pay for someone in area to prepare food for him. Might be a "novelty" for 1 or 2 nights (if you don't mind ants and spiders), but a full week, please do not subject yourself to that. This cabin should not be rented for a full week. When I'd tell locals where we were staying, I got the same response from everyone "Oh My God!!!!" They would then proceed to tell me background. I'm not talking 2 people, but at least a dozen. I felt like a fool, but I put trust in the person I made the rental arrangements with. My mistake. I should have checked with locals before getting involved in Little Bear Cabin. I am only posting this because I don't want anyone else to go through what my husband and I went through. Please, don't waste your money in renting this place for a week, you will be miserable. I now believe the bat a prior renter posted about had been in that cabin for some time, it did not come in with them. Very sad that people are being mis-led like this.
