About the Smokies

Sixth Year Anniversary and a much needed time away from work and kids. Arrived at our chalet during 0-10 degree temperatures. Got settled into chalet, had turned the heat up from 61 to 75 degrees. Two hours later, chalet was still cold and hadn't budged past 62 degrees. Called chalet rental office at about 6:00 PM. Woman said to give it time, that the electric had been off that day and it was so cold and we were at such a high altitude, that it may take awhile, but she would call us back in a little while to see if it warmed up, but in the meantime, just stay upstairs where it was warmer since heat rises. Our bedrooms, bathrooms, hot tub, and pool table were all located downstairs! We decided to try turning it onto emergency heat, but found that the temp dropped even more, down to 59 degrees, so turned it back to the normal heat. Around 8:00, woman still hadn't called, so we called her. She said she was at another chalet, but did offer to refund our money or move us to another chalet, one that had no view, no hot tub, no pool table..only thing it had was a big screen TV. We said, "No" to that since that was not what we spent money and time to travel to. But, she did offer to bring us some extra sheets, blankets, and electric heaters so that we could sleep on the pull out sleeper upstairs and the heating man would come the next day to fix it. We decided to do that. We built a fire to keep warm. Around 9:00 PM, she called and told us to put it on emergency heat and we told her that didn't work before, but she wanted us to try it again and see what happened between then and time she got there with the heaters, blankets, and sheets. 11:00 PM had approached and we were sleepy. We didn't want to leave the fire burning due to a hazard while sleeping, plus we were freezing! So, my husband called her to see if she was on her way. She absolutely lost it with him saying that we hadn't told her the roads were icy (which they weren't). We told her that they weren't icy when we came up and it hadn't rained, snowed, or done anything to cause ice. She continued to yell at him. We now didn't know what to do, so I called her and she yelled at me saying it had been a bad day and she had worked her butt off and we expected her to risk her life, but yet she wanted us to come down the mountain and meet her in town (risk our lives since she's now saying the roads are icy). I kept asking her to "calm down". She continued yelling about how everyone was in there nice warm comfy beds except for her. I tried to tell her that we had NO WARM COMFY BED (I think she was actually in her bed and didn't want to come out). I finally told her that we would be down the next day for a full refund. She said that was fine, but I was going to pay the cleaning fee of $55.00, that she was NOT going to eat that fee. I refused and that infuriated her and she hung up on me. She then called back and told me that she was calling the police to report us as being trespassers in one of her chalet rentals and to have them to escort us down the mountain, since I would not pay the cleaning fee. I told her to please call them! I then called them for a road report and to see if she had made this ridiculous report. They said the roads were fine, which we figured they were, and that she had not made a report. My husband was so upset at this point, we packed everything and left at 12:00 midnight and got a motel room. I was glad to leave because at this point, I didn't trust this crazy woman!!

Crooked Gatlinburg Rental Agency
|
|
|
Cabin built in 2007, we stay in Feb. 2008. Door faces falling off cabinets, hot tub didn't work, gas fireplace didn't work, downstairs bedroom flooded by upstairs jacuzzi (bed was wet and couldn't sleep in it), bed was ruined as a result of repeated flooding (mattress felt like a black hole, you had to hold onto sides of mattress to keep from rolling into center), couch was broken in the middle and supported by a piece of wood. No to mention that there was food crumbs on the counter and someone had gone #2 in one of the upstairs toilets and didn't flush. No way it had been cleaned.
Couldn't reach rental agency office while there. Got no return phone calls and couldn't get them to come to the cabin to check out problems until after we had gotten home. When agency was reached, they went to cabin (without us present of course), and claimed there was no problem with the bed downstairs or bath upstairs.
They first claimed we would receive a full refund, but backpeddled and only gave a 20% refund. Complaints to the BBB were futile. The agency (which goes by several names) failed to respond and returned mail to the BBB unopened. Even after giving the BBB the owners HOME address, they failed to pursue the complaint. The BBB has received over 30 complaints without any results.
I'm sure the owners felt there was no problem with the bed. It's probably better than their used to, since they are from Iran and most likely slept on the ground.

Stairway leading up to condo steep-railing loose, hottub contained no chemicals, many light bulbs burned out. Sleep in the woods before you stay with Americas Cabins
|
|
|
Overall it was a pleasant stay as but we found the cabin to be in much less than great condition. We did not call to complain as it was not a life or death situation it was merely odd things done by America's Cabin, maintenance, and rodents. Before you read my comments below please keep in mind that I work in the hospitality business and I understand that it is impossible to please all guests. But unfortunately this cabin is well below par.
Some things that we found Odd:
-None of the beds were made which its not a big deal to have to make your bed but at the same time its crazy to pay for a cabin, and you do 90% of the work yourself. I mean you make all the beds, strip all the beds, clean all the dishes, put all the linen together in the bath tub, take out the trash... what is there left to do vacuum and replace the linens in the closet/ drawers? Between the 10 of us that were there we have all stayed in multiple chalet/ cabins and have never experienced one like this. Between the different family groups we typically go to Gatlinburg 6 times per year.
- The sink, oven, counter top had mouse pellets, dropping on them.
- Only one of the bathrooms actually had a more than 50% roll of toilet paper
-The carpet is ripped/ peeling down the middle in both the upstairs living room and downstairs living room
- There were dead bugs around the hot tub upstairs, and by the back door downstairs
- The back porch had a busted light fixture with glass all over the back deck (not very safe)
-The heat was very poor downstairs in fact the only place you could feel air at all was in both bathrooms it made the downstairs freezing and the upstairs hot (even without the fireplace on)
-Most of the sheetrock throughout the cabin has major staining, marks and ware on them there was even a fist sized hole in the bathroom down stairs in one bedroom
- the light over the pool table is crooked and you have to dodge it just to play pool it is not monted correctly
- One of the outlets downstairs is completely missing an outlet cover- (very safe)
- The drop ceiling in the basement had water stains on about 3 different tiles
- The pool table felt is coming loose, and the pole stabs through the ceiling tile
- The bar stools upstairs all of the tops come off and are slightly dangerous for kids.
The good stuff....
-Great View
-Decent price if everything was in working order
-the dishes were cleaned well by the previous guest
-hot tub worked fine we only used it once but seemed ok
-Directions to the cabin are great!
-It was quiet and the beds were very comfortable
-It had a good layout
-Couches were all in good shape as well as furniture
-It had plenty of amenities- coffee, detergent, dish washing liquid
- The sheets were clean even though they were not on the bed.
Again we did enjoy our stay in Gatlinburg/ Pigeon Forge however we problably will not be staying with America's Cabins any longer.

America's Cabins charges for services not performed
|
|
|
We are proud owners of a log cabin located in Pigeon Forge, TN. We placed our cabin with America's Cabins, Inc. on May 1, 2010 and terminated our contract mid-June 2010. America's Cabins, Inc. charged for cleaning that was not performed. We inspected the cabin after they cleaned it and found that the floor was not vacuumed, dusting was not done, the bathroom sink faucet was filthy , there was dirt in the hot tub and brown disgusting scum in the jacuzzi, drip pans on the stove were soiled, and kitchen flloor was unclean and sticky. For $85.00 per month (our charge), plus the $70.00 (per each rental), they were able to change the sheets and towels. Despite our having pictures of the filth and scum, Jennifer at America's Cabins, Inc. insisted that everything was done to their specifications and refused to properly clean our cabin. I would NEVER recommend America's Cabins, Inc. to either vacationers or owners when seeking a property management company. Pictures of the filth will be posted at www.americascabinscomplaints.com on or about July 17, 2010.
