Property is poorly maintained and outdated.
Located on Ninigret Pond with a boat dock, do not expect to swim here as it is filled with weeds and a floating brown algea.
The house is built on a sulfer flat, no airconditioning, opening the windows for a cool breeze is not an option because of the horrible sulfer smell.
With no potable wateryou will spend a small fortune on bottled water for drinking, ice and brushing your teeth! Taking a shower in the severly outdated showers (2 of 3 that actually work) was subjecting youself to bouts of nausea because of the smell of the water. Insects came out of the drains and showerheads!
The house was infested with earwigs, beatles, spiders & webs EVERYWHERE!
All this for $2800.00 a week!
Upon compaint we were not issued a refund as we rented sight unseen. We stayed 3 horrible nights and went to a hotel for the rest of our vacation.
The add for this home states "Updated and Comfortable". When my family and I arrived for a week vacation in Oct 2011, we were horrified to discover the property was anything but.
* There was a terrible STENCH of urine the minute you step foot in the property. The odor increases as you move about the main floor
* The floors were FILTHY leaving anything that touches them black
* The kitchen was listed as "gourmet" - the appliances were dented, the kitchen sink was old and needing to be replaced. The cookware was DISGUSTING and cheap, and there was food crusted on almost all the dishes. Old food crumbs and bugs occupied the drawers where the silverware and utensils were housed.
* The downstairs powder room had a stench so overpowering, the door had to be left open if being used
* There was thick dust on much of the upstairs furniture
* The upstairs bathroom was dirty and the towels clearly had not been laundered as we discovered one covered in what looked like mud.
We addressed the issue of cleanliness with the owner and it took 2 days for her to send a cleaning service out. Once the smell of cleaning agents lifted, the smell of urine returned and the issues of the floor remaining black to the touch remained.
On a side note 2 days prior to our arrival, the owner emailed to advise us that the TV had not been functioning for weeks as she was awaiting a part. We are a family with a toddler and therefore have alot of time to kill during naps and early bed times. Why this woman couldn't just hop over to a Best Buy or Rent-A-Center is beyond comprehension. And letting us know 2 days before when she was well aware there was an issue was very dishonest as it was too late for us to find an alternate home to stay.
We have looked forward to a vacation in Newport RI every fall for the past 6 years. This was by far the worst trip and worst property we have ever stayed in and miss Olga should be ashamed.
