Riverfront View Executive Condo, Portland, OR
|
|
|
My husband and I rented this condo in the Pearl District at McCormick Pier, 810 NW Naito Pkwy, Portland, OR from Mr. John Bunn.
Upon arrival we found the condo was located directly across from a very active dual railroad track that loads cars during the night. We had to use ear plugs to sleep at night. There was no toilet paper, no hair dryer, no iron, no blankets, but worst of all, during the week Mr. Bunn entered the condo when we were not there, twice, using silly excuses for entering. While the condo was pricey and billed as "Executive class", the decor was early garage sale, with old mis-matched sheets and towels. Finally, Mr. Bunn decided to keep $100 of our deposit, blaming us for damage which we did not cause to an already damaged bedspread. Mr. Bunn admitted that he had collected from other tenents for the damaged spread. It was obvious that he was supplementing his cash income.
Beware of any condo located at McCormick Pier as you will have dozens of trains going past all day and all night often blowing their whistle and loading cars with stone. VERY, VERY LOUD.

Security deposit not fully refunded
|

|
This past May a group of family and friends went to stay at the Sandpiper House near Gold Beach, Oregon. The house was nice, though not as clean as we would have liked. The hot tub was fine, and the beach was a short walk away. The website said the deposit would be refunded if the house was left as found, with a load of laundry started and a few other things.
My friends cleaned the house and left the laundry for me, since I was leaving later. The instructions said to start a load of sheets but because there were two loads of sheets, I put the ones I washed in the dryer, because I was afraid they'd get musty. I couldn't start another load because there was only enough detergent for one.
The friend who paid for our stay was not refunded the deposit because the manager said that some sheets were missing. Or not exactly missing, but not matching the sizes that should have been there.
This is ridiculous as well as insulting. If I needed sheets, I would spend less and get new ones that would fit my bed. Years ago, a business owner in that area told a dissatisfied customer (my dad) "You should have known better." Well, now I guess we do.

Was lied to and ripped off

When I contacted Vacasa about this rental I told them I was looking for a 5 night stay, from Monday through Friday. I was quoted a price of $440 for the time I requested. I then did the math and said it was a good price at less than $90/night. The reservation agent agreed with me. He said nothing about the price being anything more than that.
When we read our reservation confirmation with driving directions and key lock box combination the checkout time was on the 4th day, and we didn't notice this until we were more than halfway to our destination. We called at our first opportunity and all I could get from the same guy who made the reservation with me was that the price was $110 a night. I asked him why he didn't say anything when I had commented that the price was $90 a night and all I got was silence. I then asked why he made the reservation for 4 nights when I had said 5 nights and he gave me a song and dance that taking reservations was very confusing. I feel that I was lied to from the very beginning as if I had been told that the price I was to pay was $110/night I would not have rented it. (At the time I made the reservation the website did not fully explain the pricing structure but just gave a range of $85 - $110 per night and the only way to find out if it was available during the time you wished to rent it was to call Vacasa.)
We ended up having to stay only 4 nights and then rent another place somewhere else, at a reduced rate, but having to spend half of our last full day of our first vacation in 19 years moving to a town 15 miles away was a major bummer.
Now, as to the condition of the rental itself..... When we opened the door and walked in smell of mildew smacked us in the face. We opened all the doors and windows and let the wind blow through the house for 3 hours before the smell dissipated enough to not be noticeable, and we kept the windows open that night and the next day.. Two days later we went to town to eat supper and had to close the house up because it was very cool that night. When we returned the smell was back. The only way to keep it down was to keep the windows open and let the wind blow through the house.
That wasn't the only problem with the house. It had black garbage bags full of garbage lined up along the deck in front of the house for the first two days of our stay. The coffee maker was useless as the carafe and the coffee maker were from different manufacturers. That caused the carafe to not hold the drain on the brewing cup open during the coffee making cycle resulting in coffee running all over the counter when the brewing cup overflowed. There were also carpenter ants or wingless termites crawling around on the floor, and the wooden deck chair on the outside deck was rotten. Pieces of the arms of the chair had broken off exposing fully rotted wood. Oh, and we had to wash all cooking and eating utensils before we could use them. The frying pans were covered with grease. The bottoms of the salad/mixing bowls were covered in a mixture of salt and grease. The plates were dirty too with what looked like mouse turds on the top plates. (We used paper plates and plastic cups the entire time we were there.)
One last problem with this house. The rental agent told me there were three futons in the loft. This is a lie, as there are no futon frames to be found, only three futon mattresses lying on the floor of the loft.
I will never use Vacasa again and would recommend no one else to them either. These people turned what should have been a good time into something a lot less than a good time.

we walked in the door and was so overwhelmed. every room was very filthy. laundry piled up so high, refrig. was disgusting, garbage disposal really stunk, nothing worked, garbage was piled so high you couldn't even get any more in the garbage, then we looked over her fence and more garbage, hot tub we didn't even dare to use as it had so much algae and etc around the tub. everything was broken, furniture, stove, we went down to get married and not to clean day and night until 4:00 in the morning and not planning on spending the extra money for cleaning supplies, towels and so forth.. we will probably never get our money back as we went spent over 1300.00 and we really had to save for our wedding and vacation.. do not rent from this woman. she also has a house rental called thor and one in depoe bay. very disgusting, and very sad.
