11. America's Cabins charges for services not performed

We are proud owners of a log cabin located in Pigeon Forge, TN. We placed our cabin with America's Cabins, Inc. on May 1, 2010 and terminated our contract mid-June 2010. America's Cabins, Inc. charged for cleaning that was not performed. We inspected the cabin after they cleaned it and found that the floor was not vacuumed, dusting was not done, the bathroom sink faucet was filthy , there was dirt in the hot tub and brown disgusting scum in the jacuzzi, drip pans on the stove were soiled, and kitchen flloor was unclean and sticky. For $85.00 per month (our charge), plus the $70.00 (per each rental), they were able to change the sheets and towels. Despite our having pictures of the filth and scum, Jennifer at America's Cabins, Inc. insisted that everything was done to their specifications and refused to properly clean our cabin. I would NEVER recommend America's Cabins, Inc. to either vacationers or owners when seeking a property management company. Pictures of the filth will be posted at www.americascabinscomplaints.com on or about July 17, 2010.

12. Blue Ridge Zen in Boone, NC

Communication is the key to any succcessful relation. I guess the lack of is why our experience was so unpleasant.

It's not communicated well in the listing nor do the agents mention it-the property does not have air conditioning installed in the home, it only has heat. In that the agency is local and the heat wave we experienced was unusual I would have thought they would mention it when we booked, but they did not. Hopefully they advise clients of large snow storms in the winter so provisions are taken. Don't think the open windows detered the landscaping company from doing their thing at 8:00 a.m. so beware if you like sleeping in. While their stay was less than an hour the effects of their visit had an effect on our whole day. Our small children, who had difficulties going to sleep because of the heat the night before were shorted much needed sleep that next morning. A few hours later the landscape company's dump truck arrived. If we had not called the agent when materials were delivered by the landscaping company we would have been able to watch them install the firepit during our stay. For anyone hoping to stay in contact with work while away be advised the internet access is not wireless, be sure to bring a cable. Adding to our discomfort during our stay there was a terrible problem with the water pressure-we couldn't brush our teeth if the washing machine was running, rinse a dish if someone flushed, etc. Any shower has to be coordinated with other members of the household in order to be enjoyed. Also, the property is for sale-with two key boxes on the home, one for the rental company and one for the listing agent-very confusing on arrival, unnerving for security of self and property.

I highly recommend the area but cannot recommend this property or its agent.

14. advertised high speed internet, no service

They advertise high speed internet access. They do have an old Embarq router, but no internet service.
Our # 1 criteria for a rental was a high speed connection.
You can access wireless through the next door neighbor and the Days Inn intermittently, and I guess they think that's good enough, but it wasn't for me.
Nags Head Realty is quick to let you know they don't stand by their Owners advertised ammenities.

16. VRBO#129268 "Blackbeard's Treasure" Deposit Scam, Unresponsive Owner during stay

We left this rental house in better condition than we found it. We thoroughly cleaned, vacuumed and provided general maintenance (replaced gas tank for grill, which was empty when we got there, inserted air in bike tires, which were flat, etc.). The day we returned home, we received an e-mail from Sherrie stating we had done damage to the house - she said there were black permanent markers scribblings on furniture and floors. None of this was true and pictures we took on the morning of departure show this is not true. We disputed this and a month passed with no further correspondence from her. We then contacted her via e-mail again and got a different story from her when we inquired about our deposit. She altered the original e-mail she sent us about the supposed marker damage and expanded on other "damage" we did, including wine stains on bedding, dog urine and scratch marks in the house (we do not own dogs), stealing a microwave, etc. It's a very long story but we pushed her on this and in the end, she told us she "had the wrong inspection report in our folder." She conceded she was wrong but told us we did not pay a deposit so were not due a refund. It took us many more e-mails and researching checks written to prove that indeed we were due our $500 deposit, which we FINALLY received in the end. In addition to all that she put us through post vacation, she was unresponsive to major requests and e-mails we sent during vacation. The downstairs shower/tub was so clogged the family staying there had to stand in calf deep water and deal with nasty grit every day since it wasn't draining properly. She promised to send someone to fix the problem but never did. We also reported that a heavy wind had knocked over their pool table umbrella (which was not anchored in any way) and glass shattered all over family members sitting in the area, including kids. There was no acknowledgment from her on this, despite us reporting it to her promptly and cleaning up the entire mess. This owner was very responsive leading up to our stay and unresponsive during our stay. We can only conclude that this owner is disorganized and has no business being a landlord OR she is dishonest in her dealings with her tenants. Her far fetched stories and the way she handled the situation lead us to believe it is the latter. The house itself is certainly adequate for the price, and the area is absolutely beautiful. If you choose to rent this property, make sure you have the check-in person/inspector with you when you arrive AND when you leave. Take note of ANY damage you see upon arrival and take pictures. Document everything!

17. Irresponsible, seemingly immature owner

It is almost impossible to find a vacation rental in Asheville, NC during October; we rented this over a month in advance, and started planning our first vacation in over a year. First started worrying when the owner would not return phone calls or emails. Finally, a week before we were to leave she sent a very short email about a "Family Emergency" (caps are hers...guess she thinks that is a proper noun)...and were told that she would refund our money. By the next day, we had to start disputing it on Paypal. Then we were told that she didn't have time to "deal with the matter." I guess she doesn't know she's visible on Google chat...she spends a lot of time on the internet. Plain ridiculous; do not rent from this person if you really want to make plans. The bottom line was that we couldn't find another place in Asheville for that time period, so had to change our plans completely.
Try to avoid renting from this person if you can...or go ahead and try, but be prepared to deal with someone who is horribly unprofessional.

18. landes dream corolla nc

The house is an absolute dump. totally misrepresented on the web. Pictures looked beautiful and house appeared to be totally updated. It was quite the opposite. Do not stay hear. the house needs a total overhaul in the interior and exterior. The home needed to be cleaned again after we checked in as there was garbage left by previous owner including dirty underwear. dirty and in need of major renovations. Garbage on exterior property. Pool was okay but lounge chairs dating back to 1990 at best that were filthy and missing cushions. Linens were terrible - sheets like military style and towels tiny that you would find in low end hotels. Pet hair all over the comforters in the home. Never again..

19. Sun Spot Cottage more than a disappointment

When we arrived at the cottage it was very dirty, and the windows & sliding glass doors were so filthy that you could not see out of them. There were mouse droppings IN the one bed, and red ants infested the porch. The Exterminator was sent out on the second day, leaving us to sleep on couches & chairs the first night here. It took US two days of cleaning the house to get it to a suitable condition. This was after we had to go & buy our own cleaning supplies! The linens we paid for were left in a non descript black box under the porch which ended up wet! The sheets for the beds did not fit & it took days to receive the correct size. The Showerhead in the bathroom blew apart while someone was in the middle of showering. We had to go the store & buy black electrical tape & fix it ourselves! Called the Realty company daily & got little to no response. One of those calls resulted in one of the workers named Heather verbally insulting me. Finally talked to Dave from the realty co., but to no avail. The Internet pictures were very deceiving. There was a 3 foot drop off from the decking to the beach They falsely advertised an outdoor enclosed shower, which did not exist, as well an outdoor grill. The electric was unsafe which left a lot of the lights working only half the time! There was project going on called "Beach Nourishment" that we were never informed of before our arrival. We had a constuction trailer & an outhouse blocking our ocean view, from our ocean front home, for 11 days of our two week vacation. There were three days of nonstop, 24/7, construction right in front of the house on the beach. This resulted in constant noise from workers, giant bulldozer equipment, and pipes which made it almost impossible to sleep at night. Dave from the realty company even told us that we had very accurate & legitimate complaints after coming to the house to see for himself what we were complaining about. He assured us that he was going to address the situation immediately & get back to us. He also promised a cleaning crew to be sent out the very next day to clean the house. The cleaning crew never showed up, and we have never heard back from Dave! We have made many more calls to the realty company, and no one will return any of our calls. As we stated from the very beginning, we deserve some type of compensation for all of our trouble & misleadings! There are photos available if needed.

20. Surf or Sound Realty Fraud

This rental company practices unethically. They are helpful and will go out of their way to please you until the contract is signed. Hurricane Irene hit this area making it unable to be accesses. My wedding was supposed to be held at this rental on 9/18/2011. NC 12 (the ONLY road in) was destroyed and the county was under a state of emergency. Non-residents were PROHIBITED from entering, yet this company refused to refund any of our money. Our wedding was pretty much ruined and we ended up getting married at home. Their response to me was that is too bad your "vacation" got ruined but these things happen!! Not only did they falsify information and lead us to believe that the $1,500 DEPOSIT we paid covered everything, but they then lied and stated we should have gotten some type of travel insurance. Except that they said we did not need this insurance in lieu of the deposit. Surf or Sound- Thank you for ruining the day we planned for years. Thank you for stealing $4000 we worked overtime for. Thank you for completely ruining our faith in businesses and your area. We had planned to visit every year on our Anniversary. You have now taken that too as we will NEVER revisit.
