1. Minnesota Cabin rental on Bowstring Lake

Owner claims home is a four bedromm house. In fact, it is only a 2 bedroom house with a bed in the basement.
Owner claims the entire lake frontage is nice clean sand frontage for swiming, ect. Truth is the entire frontage is a muddy bog on the end of the lake. Therefore dead snails and fish wash up into the muck and rot making a horrable smell which can be detected even inside the house with the windows shut. Several appliances including the air conditioning do not work and the house was filled with mice. When I brought these items to the owners attention, he threatened me if I would complain. Renters beware!!

2. Minnesota Cabin Rental

This owner rents his cabin as a 4 bedroom cabin on sand frontage. The truth is that it is a 2 bedroom cabin with a stinky muck/ dead fish frontage. After bringing this to the owners attention after renting the property, Mr. Ingebretson threatened me to not mention the mouse filled cabin problems. Rent this cabin during the summer and you will smell roten fish all day from the lake. Do not rent unless you plan on spending absolutly no time at the lake front.

3. Cleanliness, no security deposit refund

Looks like the owner lives there and just moves out when someone rents it. Filthy showers, dirty sheets, closets packed with clothes and junk, open food filled the refrigerator and cupboards along with open wine bottles and dirty dishes in dishwasher. We called the owner immediately and he agreed to refund us our entire stay-so we left . Now he will not even send our security deposit back. Stay away from vrbo listing #211246

4. No refund of deposit

Rented the cabin for two nights and was supposed to have a $550 deposit refunded. Owner kept saying "the check is in the mail". 3 months and I still haven't received my deposit. Owner will no longer respond to emails or phone calls.

5. Refusal to return booking deposit

We booked a vacation villa in Cozumel called "Casa Ballena" for a week for our wedding. They required a 50% deposit ($1176.00) paid by check. Their contract has no cancellation policy in it. Unfortunately, we had to cancel our wedding. This was on March 15, 2010 and our reservation was for July 20, 2010. This was more than 4 months in advance. 127 days in advance, to be exact. In desperation I tried to negotiate applying part of the $1176 to a 1 bedroom property instead, since the wedding was canceled and no guests would be attending. The owner of the company, Ron White, said that was not possible. He said we will lose our entire $1176 unless they are able to rebook the same exact villa during the same exact week (which happens to be during Cozumel's low season). He also refused to give me the contact information of the property manager or owner, who according to him had control of our money.

I would NOT recommend doing business with this company. There are plenty of other rental companies that operate in Cozumel, do not take a chance with Sherrie and Ron White if there is even the slightest chance of an unforeseen circumstance that could cause you to cancel. It would be understandable to have a small cancellation fee(even though we canceled over 4 months in advance), but absolutely no refund?? Over $1100 for nothing? That is completely unethical.

6. Good Vacation Ending Badly

Vacation rental for one week. Our renter told us only a portion of a deposit was ever kept in 5 years. Reccomended a Marina in Menahga who lied to us about trying to contact us became very defensive and when we eventually got the pontoon 7 hrs later it was completly soaked makes us wonder about overbooking. Water was not drinkable though were told it was, cobwebs and piles of dirt around the house, the septic ended up overflowing while we were there and the owner mentioned how he was so nice to to charge us for it. Kept $320 of damage deposit because house was in such "dissaray" and broken shower, broken paddle boat (that didn't work when we arrived) and a late check out fee. We were 30 min late. After my husband demaned our money back they quickly sent a portion but kept $150. $100 for a broken shower and now will not provide a bill and saying they are not making things up. Except that that house was very clean and tidy all but laundry and we couldn't do that because the septic was backed up. Except now they say they have held damage deposits of up to 3 other renters. We had a lovely vacation due to family and fun but do not rent from VRBO #87085 because they have been known to lie and will not produce info of actual damage claimed. PS- always take pictures of a place when you leave and the condition left in!
