21. Refund of Security deposit not received

We rented this condo and did not find these reviews until after I sent the deposit..UGH!

We sent our deposit in June 09, for Oct 9-17 2009.. a month later she called us and said she double booked one of the nights and we could not stay there until the 10th..she said we would have to find another place for that friday (we had our airline tickets already)..she was kind enough though to book us a room through hotwire and put it to her credit card..After that I had trouble getting a hold of Kayli to get the pass code in to the condo, however the week before we were to arrive she contacted us With it. When we arrived the condo was nice, and had most of what we needed..we left everything the way that we found it and expected to get our sec. dep back with in 45 days (mail time) 7 weeks went by nothing, I email her no response, I sent it again and she said to check my credit card for refund..I did not pay by credit card so I sent another email and made phone calls. 2 more weeks went by and finally she called me (not knowing who she was calling though), she was very flustered and agitated saying that she said that the check was sent electronically and would take 5 days, when I asked when she sent it all she would say is that she was done talking to me and she did not have to put up with the questions...she hung up on me..still no check has arrive 12-17-09

22. Not a cozy "Lil' Kabin!

After planning a short vacation we booked 3 days at this cabin. Upon arrival, we found it was not close to what we thought it would be. Not because it was very small, or wasn't a luxury cabin, but because it was unsuitable!
Dirty, reaking of smoke, holes in doors causing draft, no bathtub for my small children. The 'twin' beds we not twins, more like cots. My husband started getting and immediate headache from the smoke.
We immeditely went to notify the owners that it was not suitable for us after a walk through. The man said that it was 'campfire' smoke! Obviously we can tell the difference and it was not campfire. None the less, we tried not to be rude or mean, simply stating that we cannot bathe a 1 and 2 year old in a small standup shower, a tub is needed. It would simply not workout. I could tell they thought their cabin was wonderful, but we however were appaled by the filth and pure dinginess.
We left without a full refund, and I told Kathy I was leaving unhappy, to which she walked away...not caring our vacation was ruined and they were taking money from a family of 5.
PLEASE, do not make the mistakes I did with this cabin! It is not charming as owners make it out to be. They need to update, clean in thoroughly and fix all the major problems with it, and most of all, be honest with any travelers. Open your eyes, it is not cute, cozy and charming! It is dirty, smelly and creepy! Stop taking money from unsuspecting travelers!

23. Beware of Kayli Davidson Condo Renter

We rented this for 3 years 2006/2007 and 2008. The first 2 years it took 4 months to get our deposit back each time. We went back because dad liked the location. But 2008 I gave her 35 day notice before our arrival dateon 8/23 that my mother was dying and she said no problem she will re-rent it and send our money back of $2500.00. She of course never did. My mother past on 7/30/08 and she kept our money and said she could not rent it. We took her to court and won, but it will be difficult to get what is due back to us.

24. International Vacation Home.Travel-Didn't get property we rented

My family rented a home in Newport Beach, California for Christmas. When we were about to leave for our vacation we were told that there was an clerical error and we would have to move during our stay. We are a family of 6 and I had already paid in full for our property. We were contacted again while we were enroute and told we were now in the downstairs of the home. The downstairs was smelly, plumbing did not work properly, kitchen appliances did not work and furniture was falling apart. It is now Jan 9, 2010 and no one from the company has returned my call and our deposit has not been refunded. The house was not very clean and the basement was not what we rented. The people who did get the upstairs were incredibly loud. I attempted to contact several people from the company while we were there they did not answer there phones, emails or text messages. The broken things were never attended too. I would never rent from this company again.

25. Beware of VRBO 110390 and it's "new" features!

We rented from Jan 20-26, 2010, and we feel their property description is misleading regarding several features. First, the master bedroom w/king does not have an energy efficient window and needs a bigger heater vent because the room temp remained slightly chilly even with thermostat set at 78! Also, since we had to keep the temperature set higher, the rest of the house would get uncomfortably warm. My father was in the other master bedroom and had to close his vent because it would get too hot in there. There was a broken closet knob, missing handle on one of the dresser drawers, one of the toilet handles broke (which we fixed ourselves rather than having to wait for someone to come out), lots of scrapes & scratches on the walls in the dining area, bedroom, bathroom, as well as doors, railings, and wood floors (which leads me to believe the remodel was done quite some time ago, or one of the previous tenants really banged up the place and the owners have not bothered to fix it yet). Technically it’s 1.5 bathrooms, since one has a shower only, which really needs an adjustable showerhead (otherwise the water goes right over your head unless you’re over 6 feet tall!). The owners should purchase new pots and pans for the kitchen, as the teflon is all scratched up and flaking off. We didn’t want to use them, but didn’t have a choice. Also, note that the rooms with triple bunk beds are VERY small – only big enough to fit the beds, a dresser, and a closet. Lastly, the cabin was not cleaned before our arrival, which meant having to wash sheets/blankets/towels and clean up the kitchen/bathrooms so we could use them during our first night. The owner refunded our $150 cleaning fee, but pointed out that since we received a discounted rate of $250/night (our original agreement, not because the cabin was dirty), he couldn't take off any more than that. In my opinion, that's not an adequate reason because basically he’s saying that since we paid less than the regular rate, it’s all right to get a less than satisfactory property! We felt we should have gotten back a little more money for the inconvenience of having to clean it ourselves plus wait while it was cleaned the following day (thus cutting into our skiing/boarding time), as well as the needed repairs/improvements listed above. After driving through a snowstorm to get to the place, the last thing we wanted to do was clean! The owner did offer a free night on our next stay of 4 or more nights, but why on earth would we want to stay there again after our experience? Especially receiving his response to my complaints: “Thanks for your detailed summary of things we need attention” and “sorry the place wasn't ready when you arrived.” No apology or concern that his place is no longer in the “pristine” condition described in his listing. This place is definitely NOT worth the regular rate of $300/night -- you can find much nicer places in that area for the same price. We ended up renting this place because we thought we were getting such a great deal. Boy, we were wrong!

26. Illegal rental not allowed not permitted

Sherry Halls vacation rentals are not permitted in the City of 29 Palms and she has not taken the legal necessary steps with the county.

The public needs to be protected and this is why we have health departments and such.

27. Palm Springs Vacation Rental Disaster

We rented this Palm Springs vacation rental through VRBO.com (#159287).

We have rented many times in Palms Springs, but this is the filthiest place we have ever encountered. Nothing about this place is clean; floors, bathrooms, carpets, cupboards, appliances, garage, etc.

There are many falsehoods in this VRBO ad, I tried posting a complaint with VRBO, but they only post comments that are approved by the owner, WHAT A SHAM.

Every complaint I presented to the owner he denied; no the place is not filthy, no the bed is not broken, no I never have my dog there, no the shower drain is not plugged, etc., etc.

STOP!, before you consider renting this place contact me I will be happy to send you pictures of the filth.

28. VacationPalmSprings.com

We rented this property for a stay over the Coachella music festival weekend back in early January. On Feb 24 we get a call from VacationPalmSprings.com who we made the rental with, that the property has since sold and the new owners do not want to rent it out. OK I understand things like this happen however it would have been nice to know that the house was on the market for sale before I rented it. It is difficult to believe the house was put on the market and sold in this economic climate in the 7 short weeks since I had reserved the property. And funnily enough the property is still listed on their website!
On top of that the only other option they had for me was $1000 more and they said that another request had just come through for this more expensive rental and I would have to make a decision right now. No attempt to keep me as a repeat customer. No offer of even a small discount on the replacement rental. Nothing.
All I can say is that they are a tacky company who might want to re-examine their customer service policy. I would appreciate it if anyone reading this choose to rent through someone else.

29. Imperial Beach, CA, Beach Front Condo Renters Beware!!

There is a rental property owner, currently advertising on condo rental Web sites, such as VacationRentals411 and Goin2Travel, and advertising on San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau's Web site as "A Awesome Beach Vacation in San Diego," who is conducting business in an unscrupulous, dishonest manner.

Her name is Kayli Davidson and her rental property is located at 1508 Seacoast Drive in Imperial Beach, CA; however Ms. Davidson’s personal residence is in Grass Valley, CA. During our stay in July 2009, 1/4–1/3 of the ceiling of the second bedroom collapsed. Fortunately, my family and I were out at SeaWorld at the time, otherwise my children who were staying in that room could have been seriously injured. Upon returning to find this alarming occurrence, we called Kayli to inform her of the situation. She informed us that this was due to a water heater break the week before and that it wasn't a problem because insurance was handling it. As a mother of two small children who were staying in that bedroom, I was appalled at her callous lack of concern for my family's safety and upset that we had not been notified of the damage and possible danger before arriving. I asked if she would refund our money so that we could go stay somewhere safer. She proceeded to yell at me and tell me to sweep the debris out of the way and that my children were perfectly safe in that room. And if they weren't, then they could sleep on the sleeper sofa instead. There would be no refunds.

We then had the rest of our vacation interrupted by workers and insurance agents coming in to survey and fix the damage. After contacting Ms. Davidson through the rental site where we located her listing (Value Vacation Rentals) after our return home, she agreed to give us a refund. However, it has been over six months. We have contacted Ms. Davidson many times and so has VVR to no avail. She claims that she has not yet received her payment from the insurance company. VVR has pulled her listing from their site. Other sites however are still posting her listing. Do not rent this condo from the above condo rental agencies!

This woman is not someone who you want to do business with, her listings are misleading (one even states that there is a pool and tennis courts, neither of which is true), and if things go wrong, she resorts to yelling and hanging up on her renters or ignoring their requests completely. If you do rent from her, you can expect to not receive a renters agreement nor a receipt and to wait months for your security deposit (and having to request it multiple times).

30. Vacation rental property not available upon arrival

We booked a rental property in Marina Del Ray over a month in advance of our planned vacation in the LA area. Upon arrival at LAX, as instructed, we called International Vacation Homes. Travel to coordinate meeting someone at the property to check in. Only then were we informed that the property was overbooked and not available for our stay. We found a hotel in the area on our own while we tried to contact someone at International Vacation Homes. Travel to resolve the problem. We finally received a call back the next morning. However, 24 hours after our arrival in LA International Vacation Homes. Travel, a subsidiary of California Classic Properties, claimed that they could not find a comparable replacement property. We are out a substantial amount for the added cost of staying in a hotel for four nights and International Vacation Homes. Travel at this point has refused to compensate us for the hassle and additional costs we have had to incur. Phone calls and repeated messages were not returned promptly. And the company's response has been they is little they can do and they're not in a position to reimburse us for the added cost of nearly $1,500 they caused. Don't rent a vacation property in the LA area through this company: www.internationalvacationhomes.travel
