11. Filthy home and infested with ants.

My family of 6 recently stayed at this rental home and had problems from the minute we stepped in the door. This home, touted as a "Luxurious Courtyard Beach Home" was anything but. There were ants in several of the rooms but most notably the kitchen where they were under the sink and in several of the cabinets. It was disgusting and we had to clean all of the silverware, pots, pans, plates, and cups. This is not to mention the fact that the house was not clean, especially the downstairs living area. There were cobwebs everywhere and the windowsills and area behind the couches was disgustingly dirty, as if it had not been cleaned in a long while. There was not enough soap or laundry detergent in the house to last for a week which we had to beg the homeowner to replenish. Additionally, the gas tank in the grill was empty and the wooden patio table was warped making it unusable. What's funny is the home was touted on the website as having nice patio furniture, however, after our complaint, the VRBO ad was quickly changed. We have the original ad printed out and can show what changes were made to the ad during our stay. The homeowner did respond to some of the complaints but then acted as though she didn't want to be bothered. There were several TV remotes without batteries and the batteries to blow up an air mattress were dead. We were paying over $200 per night yet she did not want to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Had this been a hotel, they'd be out of business.

12. Imperial Beach, CA Condo Renters Beware!!

There is a rental property owner, currently advertising on condo rental websites such as VacationRentals411, Goin2Travel, and ValueVacationRentals, who is conducting business in an unscrupulous and dishonest manner. Her name is Kayli Davidson and her rental property is located at 1508 Seacoast Drive in Imperial Beach, CA, however Ms. Davidson’s personal residence is in Grass Valley, CA. She has willfully defaulted on her written contract with me, without any oral or written explanations, by failing to refund me the final $100 of a security deposit. Ms. Davidson has admitted in writing that she rightfully owes me the $100 balance, and she has made many promises, also in writing, that the money would be sent out right away…but the money never arrives. I’m simply at a loss as to why Ms. Davidson won’t pay me. Kayli Davidson has owed me this money for approximately 4 months. I am a career law enforcement officer and I'm ready and willing to exhaust all methods available to me in order to collect the final $100 Kayli Davidson rightfully owes me. It has now become a matter of “right vs. wrong.” Do not rent this condo from any of the above condo rental agencies!

13. Fraud and misrepresenation VRBO#196119

Growth misrepresentation of the property condition that was described as luxurious and freshly remodeled and failure to return a 500 USD security deposit.
This is what we encountered:
i. House is in a shabby condition ( pictures may be old” )
ii. State of cleanliness when we arrived: dirty windows, dirty floors, dusty covers, dirty cabinets in the kitchen, badly washed dishes – we cleaned the house for 2 hours before unpacking. I would argue who needs to get paid for cleaning here ( $175 charge).
iii. Garden – dead plants, dirty, no garden furniture, not usable
iv. Doors to 2 bedrooms get stuck, thankfully we had a few man to rescue us every day; my mother was stranded for an hour in her room when we were out, she accidentally closed the door
v. Light fixtures are broken and missing
vi. Furniture: dinner table is filthy, needs restoration or at least a cover; not all of the furniture in the pictures was in place by the way
vii. Bathrooms – one toilet and one tub for 6 people – this is not a livable and comfortable arrangement, besides the bathroom has not been refurbished – it is not a pretty site – the ceiling is covered with spots, old fixtures, the shower keeps braking, toilet over floats – disaster!
viii. View? There is no view from this flat; you have to go to the roof to see it.
ix. Plants and flowers? There is a large, dead tree in the living room to enjoy, the rest of arrangements from the pictures are missing
x. There is nothing luxury or comfortable about this apartment aside from the Viking stove.
xi. By the way, I called Morris, Valery’s assistant many times from the property and using my own phone to ask him to fix problems, Morris did not pick up and did not call back

14. Poorly Maintained Vacation Home

We travel with our dog. We rent homes that accept pets and expect it to be a little run down. To our surprise, we rented this cabin and found it in very dirty condition. The carpets were stained and had party sprinkles from the last renter. The odor was masked by a scented candle. Later after unpacking, my daughter saw a part of a nylon glove laying on the carpet below the dinner table. It first looked like a condom. Both porch lights were burned out providing no personal safety upon approach to the cabin. Because the cabin was on the beach we still had loads of fun.

I tried to complain to VRBO.com regarding the condition of the cabin. VRBO policy is to have the property owner review the complaint and accept the complaint before posting. Duh! whats the use. I did receive an apology and lame excuses from the owner. I will reconsider using VRBO for their comment policies.

15. Bad Rental in Pismo Beach

We chose this home because of the location (right on the beach) and it had plenty of room for our group. The one up side to this home was the patio, but it did not outweigh the negatives. First, it was dirty. There was dirt and caked on dust on all the blinds, windows, and doors. Second, there were bloodstains on a set of sheets! Third, there were mousetraps placed next to the fridge WITH a dead mouse in it. Last. although this seems miniscule compared to everything else, none of the DVD players worked. When I contacted Gail at the Rainbow Ventures, she basically said that all of these problems were because the house is located right on the beach and she personally would never choose to live there. Then she shifted the focus and claimed they were missing a CD player. After I let her know EXACTLY where each CD player was when I did a walk through, I heard no more from her. I had to call and follow up about receiving our deposit back and it came in the mail 2 days later. I found this listing on VRBO and have rented from this website before with much better results. I would recommend not renting from this property management company AT ALL.

16. Dishonest renter/ Dirty beach house

Property not as described. Looked forward to this holiday stay unfortunately not here (stayed 10 minutes) Mould on shower curtain, unclean presentation with dust and general dirt, fridge full of previous tenants half eaten food.
Immediately contacted the owner, Raquel Beer by telephone who confirmed she would refund our money. ( We had to find alternative accommodation at extra cost) This has not happened and she refuses to return any of our attempts to contact her. We have complained to Vatationrentals who suggest the issue is between us and the property renter. Not the support you need considering they promote the rentals.
We strongly advise not to pay in advance as once you have our experience is you will lose your money. Be warned.

17. Beware of 810 Yarmouth Ct. San Diego, Ca!! We were scammed!!!

My husband and I found an ad on Craigslist for a vacation rental and we talked to the owner and decided to rent this vacation rental. The owner Jennifer Prevost Gonzales sent me to a link to look at the pictures of the place and she said she has it listed on there too. It is listed under Yarmouth 1. She told me the view was of the bay and she said the place was VERY clean.
When we arrived at the rental after driving for 7 hours we were appalled at what we saw. The nice patio was really a patio that had trash all around it.
As we went up the stairs that lead to the rental unit we noticed the railing was broke and there was a big drop off of the stairs. This unit was also advertised as being right next to a nice hotel but all we saw was the back of it and it was filled with trash and huge cargo crates. This was our "bay view" it was disgusting.
the owner lives downstairs but last minute could not be there to meet us so she left the keys for us under the mat. When we got into the apartment we were even more disgusted. The place was filled with dirt. The tile in the kitchen was cracked and so dirty this place hadn't been cleaned in months. I even saw roaches. We also noticed that none of the windows but one would open up so with no air conditioning in the place it was a hot box. I then called the owner to tell her the place was not clean and she got an attitude with me and said "yes it is I was just in there in the morning." I tried to get her to meet us to talk about this but she would not tell me when we could meet and blew me off. We had a few friends meet us there to see how bad it was and took pictures and video of this disgusting place. We then decided to stay with our friends because this place honestly was not fit for humans to stay in. My husband then called Jennifer Prevost that evening and she still insisted the place was clean until my husband told her we had video and pictures of this place. Her story then changed and she said she would get a cleaning crew in the next day but we knew this place was a safety hazard and that she wouldn't fix the problems that this place had. She never contacted us after she supposedly cleaned the unit, it took for us to email and send certified mail to her before she responded by email saying the place was clean but her lease clearly says if she doesn't make the place available within 10 days which she did not do then the lease is void and the tenants get the full deposits back. She was trying also get rent for the month and keep our deposits of $1800.00 even though we never stayed there. After we made her aware of what her own lease says she offered to take the rent out of the deposit and give us back $350. So far we have not gotten a response from her after we said we want the whole deposit back.
This woman is unreasonable and thinks that this is the type of place you get by the beach for $1450 a month.
Please beware that this place is not a good vacation rental and the owner will scam you!!! We will most likely have to go to court to get our deposit back and spend more money to go back there to do this. We were moving there so that my husband who has Parkinson's could go to the VA for good medical help but instead we lost $1800.00.

18. Beware do not rent 810 Yarmouth ct. San diego , Ca!! The place is a dump!

My husband and I rented this "Vacation rental" from Jennifer Prevost aka Jennifer Gonzales. She told us that it was very clean and had great views. She listed this on Craigslist but also lists it on Mission sands vacation rentals website. The pictures look great but when we arrived to this rental we were disgusted. The nice patio that they claim is so nice has junk all around it and the rental itself is a dump. The place is so disgusting dirty and there are things that need to fixed inside and out. We couldn't stay there it was so bad so we had to stay with friends as we had driven 7 hours to get to this place and we were beat. We notified Jennifer Prevost that we could not stay there and she has refused to give back our deposit even though we never stayed there and she never gave us a clean rental like she said she was.
Now she says if we continue to warn people about this and prevent her from renting it out then she will sue us for slander. What kind of person does this? She is truly a slum lord! Now we are out $1800.00 still and now she's harrassing us because we're just trying to prevent other people from going through the same nightmare. Don't rent from her she will scam you!!!

19. Dirty and Nasty in Palm Springs

"I had booked this property for a long weekend. It looked like a good place for a family get together.................that is, until I saw the place. Extremely disappointed is an understaement. The place had a very dirty feel to it. The cabinets had old food in them and the fridge had not been cleaned out. There were cracks in the bedroom walls, closet doors that were of there off their hinges and just dangling. Many of the closets were impossible to even get into as the owner had a bunch of his stuff strewn about. The outdoor furniture was covered with dirt and debis. The pool had cracks in it and big chunks missing. I called the owner and voiced my displeasure with the property. He gave me one excuse after another. I decided the place was not fit for me or my family. We called an agency in Palm Springs and booked another property. At this point, the owner has not been responsive to refunding the balance owed to me.
KEEP SEARCHING! This place is a mess! Book something else. You'll be happy you did."

20. Refund of Security deposit not received

Refund of security deposit not received. I have called and emailed Kayli about the security deposit refund from when my family stayed at her rental on 10-10-09 / 10-17-09.. She responed once to say that she refunded it to my credit card, however I have never provided a credit card for payment that she would of been able to credit. I am really concerned that this is a common problem with her properties and I wanted to make other people aware to take caution
