Reo Hope, the owner of the vacation home in Las Vegas, cancelled my reservation the day before my departure. I was never refunded the money.

2. Manager Rented property to someone else, withheld $100 refund

I rented a home from Vacaton Home Rentals (for 7/20/2007, secured it using a credit card. Before arriving to location, at the airport getting ready to get on the plane, I was informed that the home was rented, they did not expect US (a basketball team) until 7/21. The manager (Rod) said it was their mistake and they would put us up in another rental for the night, the move us the next day. Rod never went with us to the house, just gaved me the access code, (it was late in the morning Vegas time about 12:30 am) The house was not ready for occupancy and had roaches, a hole in the wall, the rug was dirty, the daybed was on the side, some blinds were torn. I called Rod immediatly to complain and let him know this was unaccetable. I was told that house in vegas have roaches. LOL. I then drove to the property I had requested and found people were in the home. I then decided to take the team, 8 boys and check into the Las Vegas Hilton for the night. I called the next day 7/21 and let them know how I felt and wanted a refund. I was told they would have the original property ready at 3. I had to call them around 3:30, of course they did not call me. I was told that he would have to put us in another house, I said no, you are in breach of contract, just give me my money back. I paid $2285. He agreed. I picked up the money, a cashiers check, for $2185, that was stuck in the door of the office. The information inside, was the credit card authorization form, that listed all the fees i was charged, and written in pen, a new fee of $100 for meeting us at the office late. LOL, LOL.

I had been in contact with this guy from the time I filled out the lease information until the time I stepped on the plane, he was informed that I would be coming in late, NO WHERE and AT NO TIME, did he ever MENTIONED a fee for meeting late. THEY are incredable. I have requested the $100.00 back. A basketball team does not have money. Plus we had to go above the budget when I had to get the boys rooms permanently at the LAS Vegas Hilton.

I was told; " You should be happy you got a refund"

3. Beware of Beachhouse on Gulf Coast with Pool!! Listing #5349 on Vacationhomerentals.com

Beware of Beachhouse on Gulf Coast with Pool!! Listing #5349 on Vacationhomerentals.com
This beach house, called "LaFittes Retreat" in the Morgantown subdivision of Gulf Shores, Alabama was dirty and very poorly maintained when we arrived to stay there for a week. We called the owners Dana and Willy Hill but they never returned our calls. There were also roaches, dog food on the floor and faeces on one of the bath towels. The shower was fowl and mildewed and stank ! The pictures on vacationhomerentals.com are very misleading and are probably very old. Other houses nearby were much nicer and cheaper too. So beware if you rent this place you may feel like throwing up when you arrive, we did !

4. Paniolo Hale I-2

Swenson Real Estate/molokai vacation rentals charged us $365 for the 3 nite minimum (we only stayed 2 nites). They also charged us for supposedly scratching their floors-which we didn't do an additional $250 and $150. They are business scammers and they will use your credit card without proper authorization to charge anything they feel you need to pay them in addition to your basic 3 nite fee. The condo was in filthy condition with lizard poop, ants and a film of dust everywhere. There was not enough dish detergent to last the 3 day minimum and the dish scrubby was brown and dirty and they did not have a new one. They will charge you for damages that you did not do-be aware of these people and if you need to go there, treat them like a car rental company and take pictures of all damages and filth after you walk in and call them up with the report. Molokai is beautiful-you can even camp free a couple of minutes down the road from Paniolo Hale at Pohaku beach park. There are showers and camping facilities. The same beautiful beaches are just a minute from the camp site. Don't pay Swenson real estate/molokai vacation rentals anything-don't give them your credit card number over the phone. They will use it without proper authorization and charge you for damages you have not done.

6. Riverfront View Executive Condo, Portland, OR

My husband and I rented this condo in the Pearl District at McCormick Pier, 810 NW Naito Pkwy, Portland, OR from Mr. John Bunn.

Upon arrival we found the condo was located directly across from a very active dual railroad track that loads cars during the night. We had to use ear plugs to sleep at night. There was no toilet paper, no hair dryer, no iron, no blankets, but worst of all, during the week Mr. Bunn entered the condo when we were not there, twice, using silly excuses for entering. While the condo was pricey and billed as "Executive class", the decor was early garage sale, with old mis-matched sheets and towels. Finally, Mr. Bunn decided to keep $100 of our deposit, blaming us for damage which we did not cause to an already damaged bedspread. Mr. Bunn admitted that he had collected from other tenents for the damaged spread. It was obvious that he was supplementing his cash income.

Beware of any condo located at McCormick Pier as you will have dozens of trains going past all day and all night often blowing their whistle and loading cars with stone. VERY, VERY LOUD.

7. Waterfront Home

My husband and I rented a home through this guy who called himself an agent to the owners. We checked into the house to find that the things he promised were not there. The house was not cleaned, he didn't change the filter on A/C, after about a week the AC broke, he told us it was "our fault," he yelled and cursed and screamed at my wife, a nightmare, total nightmare.

I am no sure how this person came to be in this business, but he is without a doubt the biggest con artist in the world. He not only made our lives a living hell during our stay, he told us that it was our fault and we were the ones to blame, even so far as to calling us names.

I would really be weary of this guy, the owner has since told him not to manage his home, but to think someone could do something like this. I hear from the owner the guy even stole from him, what a shame.

Be careful!

8. Moana Kai Beach House Unit A

Rented property in April for Christmas. Agent demanded wire transfer for final payment. When we complained about service, agent cancelled reservation 60 days before Christmas.

Cancellation was 30 days ago. We paid in full and have not received any money back. We found Hawaiian Luxury Destinations, aka Hawaiina Rental Vacations (La Mesa, California) to be unprofessional, defensive, and unreasonable.

9. USA Vacation Home

On November 4, I purchase two six bedroom vacation homes; Olivia Zuluaga was my sales representative. She was very informative explaining the detail of the home and what they had to offer me. I finally decided to purchase the two homes for my families’ annual stay in Orlando, FL. She explained to me that she would send me confirmation via email and for me to look over the package, I informed her I would not be able to look over the package until the holidays and if I had any problems I would get in touch with her. Well, my family and I was able to review the vacation package and in their policy it states we are require to pay a security deposit of $500 per vacation home. Olivia Zuluaga failed to mention this to me!! She inform me about all the discount they offered and the how beautiful their vacation homes was but never once did she mention anything about a security deposit of $500 which is due when we check-in; this is unacceptable practice. Olivia should have told me this before I gave her my credit card information. Also reading their policy if I cancel my home which I have done they are charging me a $200 per home. I spoke to Olivia via email on November 26 regarding my situation; I told her I should not be charged a cancellation fee but she failed to inform me about this policy before she booked my room. Her reply was that I should have read their company policy and procedures before I booked the room but I told her how can I read the company policy and procedures when I booked our vacation home via the phone with her. I then went on their website to see if they had any policy and procedures in regards to their vacation home, THEY DON’T! As a consumer how am I suppose to know about their policy and procedures if it is not listed on there website or if I book via the phone if it is not told to me. I was mislead, this is dishonest practice; I should not be charged any cancellation fee because I was not inform about any policy and procedures. This company sell practice needs to be investigated. I also have several email conversation between me an this sales representative apologize for not informing me but they need to be responsible for their actions.

10. Paniolo Hale K1

Property manager double-booked the unit I reserved, so that when I came to pick up the key, it had another person booked there. Ray Miller, owner of Friendly Isle Realty, was defensive, made every effort to blame me (even though Friendly Isle had cashed my deposit check three months earlier and I had a record of the booking for that date). Ray refused cover the difference for providing a comparable unit in the same complex from a competitor. He did provide an alternative accommodation which was much smaller, far less atmospheric, and did not suit our needs for Thanksgiving weekend. He never apologized for the mess-up, and rather blamed me, the other customer who booked the unit, and his staff.
