I saw this vacation home from Patrick Blunt on a well-known website and made an inquiry. I put in 8 people as the number of guests. He publishes on his website that his home sleeps up to 12 people. When we spoke through e-mail he quoted me an early booking rate of $1065.00. When I decided to book we had several family members undecided if they could come. I decided to give him a $300.00 deposit and fill out a rental agreement. On the agreement you have to fill out total number of guests, which I put a( ?) in the field. I gave names of 6 confirmed family members. I then told him that I would give him the names of the persons once they confirmed. At that time he accepted my reservation request. Nine weeks before arrival, I contacted him to arrange payment and to give him names of the three others. He stated that because I had added people not on the booking form, we would have to pay $134.00 more. And that my $1065.00 reduced rate was due to only eight staying in the home. He said there would be more wear and tear in the home. Our party consists of 7 adults (4 over 50years of age) and 2 children.
He never once stated that the $1065.00 rate was due to a low number of people. We asked him why and he said he was still being reasonable. His demeanor became very strange and he said that I was the sneaky one by adding an extra person. I started questioning whether he was legitimate at all. I had only spoken with him through e-mails. I asked him for references and the name of his management company. He refused to give me any. But he then asked me for my references. He stated that I should have asked for his references beforehand. I still have no idea if this guy is legitimate. Please do your homework if you decide to ever book a vacation rental.
