False Advertisting: The Beach Paradise That Wasn't
This is a nice enough place but the home owners don't warn you in their VBRO profile that they have a house about 20 feet away from which they monitor you for the entire stay. After they receive your check, you get a an extensive list of rules for staying in their house.
The profile advertised 4 levels of house with a basement with bunk beds. When we arrived, that room was padlocked shut. There was also a padlock on the washing machine. That's only for weekly guests. As if my idea of fun were to spend my weekend doing all my laundry at a beach house rental? You're not...

The posting on www.vrbo.com is rental #85620 and contains untrue information and is omits important information.
The material omission concerns failing to disclose that a single lane road leads up to the house from Rheems Creek Road. The Ashleigh Grove Lane road up to the house is a narrow single lane road on a steep grade with a blind curve....

Rented this vacation home direct through owner. When we arrived the house had not been cleaned. Dead bugs everywhere,dirty sheets,rotten food in refrig,ceiling fans hanging from ceiling, and pool & hottub were green with algae. Contacted owner and he said he was sorry and would have people there the next day. No one showed to fix problems so we contacted him again and said we were leaving and asked for a refund which he agread to. After wasting 2 days there we found another home. Rented 12th floor condo overlooking ocean for 3rd time December 2008, for two weeks. When I arrived I was immediately aware of construction in the unit next door. Cleaning lady was present and heard the earsplitting noise, consisting of jackhammers and hi-speed ceramic saws (for cutting floor tile). Hallway covered with dust and debris which entered apt. MATT SMITH Vacation Rental Con Artist Lanikai
Matt Smith is a con artist who manipulates and steals from clients who give deposits and refuses to provide them with confirmations by the time their balance is due, thus forcing the prospective client to withdraw their offer and forfeit their deposit. My mother lost 2100 dollars from this con artist and I wanted to warn other people about this antics. In addition, my mother's travel insurance will not cover this because my mother was forced to breach the contract by this man's actions. He is a completely dishonorable and disreputable person. He was not the owner but claimed to be. BEWARE!

Dispute over rental deposit refund
Part of the damage deposit was kept without regard to the rental agreement. Charges were made for claims of excess cleaning, late checkout, lock change and extra persons. We agreed to charges for excess cleaning, although these conditions were not clearly represented in the contract. We did not lose the keys, but left one on the property and mailed the other back to StreamRush Properties as soon as it was noticed. The house was not as advertised. The furnishings were trashy, the place was not clean, and the pictures on the website were misleading. The owner, Chris Webster, was a real jerk.
When we refused to stay there, he would not refund the rent we had paid him. When we said we were going to call the authorities, he beat us to the punch, called the police and accused me of "trashing" the house. He said we littered the lanai with food cartons, etc. and that we tore curtains and a screen on a sliding glass door to the lanai.
In fact, the curtains were dry...

Hightower House
On 7/14/09, my family and I traveled 6 hours to Hiawassee, Ga. for our annual family vacation with two other families. Upon our arrival at Hightower house, we were greeted by spiders, cobwebs and a musty, mildew odor. The spiders & cobwebs were everywhere. Every doorway had cobwebs blocking them. The ceiling of the downstairs staircase had spiders crawling on it. The master bath tub had spiders crawling in it & the jacuzzi jets had mildew surrounding them. "Arts & Crafts" House in Godalming, Surrey, UK
Of the "sleeps 5" listed, two beds were in the attic, accessible only with serious effort, through a vertical wall-mounted ladder that led to a hole in the ceiling. (This was deceptively called "a cleverly designed stair" in the listing.) One of these beds was a trundle that could not have been pulled out without virtually dismantling the portable closet. This room was unsafe (due to unshielded hole in floor) even after we purchased multiple nightlights for it (no refund for those.)
HW boiler for dishwashing etc. worked very rarely throughout one-week stay. Promised Internet...

Beware of Mr. Abott
Transferred USD 1075 for the above rental to "Mr. Abotts" accountant - Ristawati Djakaria, at Washington Mutual Bank,Seattle, on 14/5/08. Mr. Abbott failed to confirm receipt of deposit. Contact numbers had been temporarily disconnected. Eventually he emailed to say transfer had not been received, the apartment was still available and he would think of another way to get the deposit from me. As naive as I was, I suggested credit card - his response was that his merchant account was temporarily not functioning !!. I have not heard from him since then and had to book other accommodation....
